Walking can be incorporated into any lifestyle; it’s free, simple and gentle. Unlike running, walking has less risk of injury because your body is moving the way it was designed to. To insure you’re getting the most out of your walking experience you must make sure your using the correct posture. Here a few pointers to follow during your walks.

Walk with your feet shoulder width apart, head straight forward and make sure you are standing up straight to help take the pressure off your back. Your arms should be bent to a 90 degree angle while swinging back and forth, this will give you power to keep going forward and increase cardiovascular fitness.

Be sure to do the foot roll. Start with the heel continue to ball then push off through your toes, this will improve your walking and allow you to burn more calories.

While on your walk don’t race! Speed and distance is not the goal here. Move your body at a comfortable and sustainable pace. Movement is the best thing for our bodies. It doesn’t have to be fast, it can be as simple as placing one foot in front of the other.

Focusing on your breathing is a great way to increase self-awareness and lower your stress. You reap more benefits when you take in the world around you, not only is the air pure but the abundance of nature erases the worlds stresses. A recent study from California State University indicates the more you walk the better you feel emotionally, since walking has the ability to release natural endorphins.
